The mountains of the Bregenzerwald are full of exciting things to discover. Walking tracks take you to all the loveliest places, where stories are told and events are held. Your "passport" to all these wonderful mountain experiences is the Bregenzerwald Guest Card, which you receive automatically for stays in the Bregenzerwald of three nights or more, and is included in the price of your holiday.
Walk to your heart's content
Barefoot path
Walking barefoot through the Bizau Obermoos (marshland) is a real experience. The Ulve stream meanders back and forth through this natural beauty spot, and every so often you change over from one bank to the other. Three small peninsulas are equipped with inviting benches, where you can enjoy a rest in the heart of the moor. With sharpened perceptive skills you can try to identify the great variety of different plant types growing along the banks of the stream. It is mostly soft underfoot, but can also be sharp and stony, so you should proceed with heightened awareness and a careful step. And don't forget, you are walking on 10,000 years of local geological history!
"Goßarweag" (Goat track)
For many centuries, goat farming was an integral part of everyday life in Bizau. Aimed at commemorating this aspect of the area's cultural heritage, the walk offers not only much of historical and ecological interest, but also passes through an area of outstanding natural beauty. En route there are five fun stations where children can enjoy touching, looking, hearing, feeling, guessing and climbing.

Our great selection of tracks, which range from challenging trails right through to pleasant pootles to stunning viewpoints, is guaranteed to make any biker's heart beat that little bit faster. In total the Bregenzerwald offers a fabulous network of some 450 km of marked mountain bike routes.

Running
Where everything runs smoothly
The Bizauer Moos (wet marshland) is a beautifully situated wetland habitat with an astounding selection of flora and fauna. Here is your chance to leave the tarmac behind and take to the Great Outdoors.

Architecture
If you're keen on architecture, be sure to take a walk through the village of Bizau. The Bizau Kindergarten, school and council offices, Gasthof Taube, the Wälderfenster company headquarters and the Bizau chapel of rest all rate as some of the most remarkable buildings in the Bregenzerwald. In addition, there are many outstanding private houses dating from every era in the village's history. The whole effect is so impressive that the entire village was awarded the ArGeAlp prize. The jury praised the simplistic style of the buildings which, although new, incorporated the traditional character of the village. Also worthy of attention are the typical "Hag" (fences) and the hay meadows in the Bizauer Moos (marshland).
Cycling
Where the villages can be explored by bike
Since most Bregenzerwald villages lie spread out along the wide valley floor, they lend themselves perfectly to a discovery trip by bike. The Bregenzerwald cycle path follows a dedicated track from Schoppernau to Doren, mostly along the line of the former Bregenzerwald railway, through wild and romantic gullies beside the Bregenzerach torrent.
The quick and easy route to the Schubertiade
The Schubertiade is renowned as the world's leading Schubert festival. Each year the programme contains some 50 events, including chamber concerts, lieder evenings, piano concerts, lectures and master classes. Year after year a host of leading performers and ensembles are invited to perform in the Angelika Kauffmann hall in Schwarzenberg.
A shuttle bus will take you directly from the Taube in Bizau to the concerts and other events in Schwarzenberg. We will provide an early dinner, and when you return after the concert you can enjoy your dessert!
Performances on the lake
From 17th July to 18th August 2024 the opera “Der Freischütz" by Carl Maria von Weber will be performed on the world’s largest “floating” stage.
